quick takes: Disconnected.

Quick TakesHappy Friday!

As you may recall from last week’s Quick Takes, I’m currently unplugged. I’m off in some other land, not in Colorado and not plugged in to any social media. My cell phone is off. I’m not tweeting, I’m not texting, and I’m not returning blog comments (yet). I’m sure that a blog or two will come out of it, but for the time being I’m going to enjoy being disconnected from the computer and fully connected to God and nature and…quiet.

One of my lovely blogging friends shared this video with me about how a book gets published. While my story is a little different because I’m not publishing a novel, the basics are pretty much the same (at least from what I can tell). So, enjoy – and keep praying for the book and the proposal! God willing, I’ll know one way or the other before Christmas!

There seems to be a lot more anonymous commenters lately…if you’ve got an opinion, own it! If you don’t want to use your real name, then put a fake name (i.e. Jim, Steve, Ronda, etc.). Anonymous comments may or may not be approved. Just sayin’…I reserve the right to delete any and all comments. Haters gonna hate, just somewhere else 😉 (Though I’m always open for a rational, adult discussion!)

As you already know, this blog has been pre-written. I am SO excited to take a couple of books on my trip and read them! I’m also planning on taking my own book, since I haven’t read it since September and that feels like forever ago! Hooray for good reading! I’m taking Volume One of the books by Anne the Lay Apostle and “No Man Is An Island” by Thomas Merton. What are you reading? I have so many lists around here of books I want to read someday, but I’d love to know what has been inspiring you lately!

In case you haven’t noticed yet, I added a new widget. That lovely little sidebar on the top right is pretty stellar. It is a photo representation of the four most popular posts in the last 48ish hours. I am not at all surprised that “dear Husband.” always manages to be on there. So, check it out and look around the blog, I’ve been digging into the some of my older posts (and finding it hard to believe I even have “older” posts) and finding some real gems I’ve forgotten about! And thanks for being here and reading the crazy things I write!

love letters

Song of the week: “Send Her To Me” by Tyrone Wells. You can listen to part of it here. It is from his latest album, “This Love” which is simply fantastic. Hands down, Tyrone is one of my favorite artists. I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since I heard 30 seconds of “Sink or Swim” on a promo commercial for Grey’s Anatomy years and years ago. Do yourself and your ears a giant favor and go guy “This Love”. Or any album by Tyrone Wells. You can thank me (and him) later!

Tyrone Wells. This Love. Just buy it!

This week you get some more Catechism goodness! Paragraph number 398, “In that sin man preferred himself to God and by that very act scorned him. He chose himself over and against God, against the requirements of his creaturely status and therefore against his own good. Constituted in a state of holiness, man was destined to be fully “divinized” by God in glory. Seduced by the devil, he wanted to “be like God”, but “without God, before God, and not in accordance with God” (St. Maximus the Confessor). Whenever I read about the Fall it makes me a little (or a lot) sad to know that we were created in original glory and yet we are born in original sin (read CCC 399-406 for more on original sin). It is a question we must continue to ask ourselves, “Do I want to be like God? If the answer is yes, then am I seeking to be like God on my own, without Him, or am I seeking to be like Him by loving Him more fully?”

Until next time 😉
