why Wait

It is about time I gave some songs to the other side of the “Rock or Knock” series…

Rock or Knock: Knock.
Song: Why Wait
Artist: Rascal Flatts
Lyrics:
What’aya say girl, we do somethin’ crazy
Quit puttin’ it off, you know what I’m sayin’
Ain’t like it ain’t gunna happen, forever’s a given
It’s already written
Who we kiddin’ baby, come on

The stars can’t line up any straighter
Let’s do it now and think about it later

Why wait another minute
For somethin’ we should’a done yesterday?
I know a little church
With a preacher who could hook us up right away
Love don’t need a reason
Baby I don’t see how I could love you anymore than I do today
So why wait

Now I love your mama, let’s save her some trouble
And your daddy won’t mind if we save him a bundle
Girl it just so happens, that ring that you wanted
Well guess what I bought it
It’s in my pocket baby, come on…

Let’s get it done, let’s get it on your left hand
This is me, girl, poppin’ the question

Why wait another minute
For somethin’ we should’a done yesterday?
I know a little church
With a preacher who could hook us up right away
Love don’t need a reason
Baby I don’t see how I could love you anymore than I do today
So why wait

Let’s do something crazy
‘Cause crazy’s what you make me

Why wait another minute
Wait another minute come on
Well I know a little church
With a preacher who could hook us up right away
Love don’t need a reason
Baby I don’t see how I could love you anymore than I do today
So why wait
Why wait

What’aya say girl we do somethin’ crazy

I’ll give Rascal Flatts this: this song is ridiculous catchy and gets stuck in my head way too easily.

I might actually like this song if it weren’t for one horrid, horrid line in that, in my opinion, ruins the rest of the song. Do you know what that line is? “Baby I don’t see how I could love you anymore than I do today.” Seriously? If you can’t see yourself loving me more than you do right now, if this is it, if our love is going to remain stagnant and/or fade from here on out then please do me a favor and just leave right now. I want a love that grows and matures over time. I want a love that is like a good fine wine: better and richer over time. This line drives me nuts, plain and simple.

Also, “let’s do it now and think about it later” is a horrible way to go about life. Be spontaneous, sure, but with big life-altering decisions, i.e. GETTING MARRIED, you should think about it now. Think about it a lot now and think about it later. Pray about it now. Pray about it in five minutes. Pray about it constantly. Discuss it with your significant other. Discuss it with your spiritual director. Discuss it with your parents, with your closest friends. My goodness, please don’t just jump into marriage and think about it later.
Why wait? Because time tells all and you need time to get to know one another, you need time to figure out how to weather the storms of life together, you need time to build a solid foundation on, you need time to figure out how to spiritually connect to one another and to God. You need time to learn how to love each other as the other needs to be loved, not necessarily how you *think* they need to be loved. If your love is true, if it is from God it will be there as much (more so, in fact) tomorrow as it is today. Wait because patience is a virtue and because God will bless your patience abundantly.
