The IHS symbol is a popular Christological monogram. Originally the IHS abbreviation came from the Greek abbreviation of the name of Jesus (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ shortened to ΙΗΣ). The Greek letter sigma (the funny looking E) in Latin is "S", thus forming the IHS monogram. Throughout the centuries this monogram has taken on different meanings, including "Jesus Hominum Salvator", "In Hoc Signo", and others.
In 1541 Saint Ignatius adopted the monogram as one of the main symbols for the Jesuits. However, history teaches us that the IHS symbol is not specifically Jesuit. Rather, IHS is a well known symbol for Jesus.
With this classic symbol as inspiration, I took many titles and understandings of Jesus to prayer.
From that prayer and reflection came the entire IHS sticker series. This sticker in particular celebrates Jesus' role as King. Whether your liturgical calendar celebrates the solemnity of Christ the King the last week in October, or the last week before Advent, this sticker is sure to draw you closer to the King of the Universe!
Atop the IHS monogram sits a regal crown. The sticker also features a scepter, a common object held to denote royalty. Lastly, the cross is a deep shade of purple, yet another symbol for royalty!
