love done Gone.

Before I begin this week’s “Rock or Knock” featured song I want to remind you that this FRIDAY, June 29th, is going to be one epic day here at worthy of Agape! In case you haven’t heard yet (be sure to “like” worthy of Agape on Facebook and/or follow me on Twitter @worthyofagape for updates!) I’ve been working on a giant project since January. On Friday I will be announcing the project and tell you some about it. I can tell you this: God is certainly working on my heart and really pushing me to get this project off the ground. I am SO excited about it and I hope you are too! Be sure to come back Friday for the big announcement! That being said…

Thanks to a special reader for suggesting this week’s featured song!

Rock or Knock: Knock.
Song: Love Done Gone
Artist: Billy Currington
Lyrics:
Don’t worry, baby; sometimes, things change
Nothin’ we can do about it now, no way
This doesn’t come easy, but that’s just life
We can’t keep pretendin’ everything’s all right

We told each other it was love before
The simple truth is it just ain’t no more
The bells stopped ringin’, the music won’t play
The crazy little feeling is fadin’ away

Like snowflakes when the weather warms up
Like leaves on the trees when the autumn comes
Like the dogwood blossoms in the late spring rain
Like disappearing bubbles in a glass of champagne

Like a red kite lost in the blue sky wind
I don’t know where the good times went
It ain’t nothin’ we ever said or ever did wrong
It’s just love done gone

I don’t regret a single thing that we did
Any time together we ever spent
I wouldn’t change a thing, baby no
Sometimes, we gotta just go with the flow

Like snowflakes when the weather warms up
Like leaves on the trees when the autumn comes
Like the dogwood blossoms in the late spring rain
All the disappearing bubbles in a glass of champagne

Like a money in a slot machine
Don’t know what happened to you and me
It ain’t nothin’ we ever said or ever did wrong
It’s just love done gone

Dearest Georgia Boys,
Please stop writing/singing songs that land you in the “Knock” section of the Rock or Knock series.
Love,
Amanda

Why must they make such horrid songs so catchy? I hadn’t listened to this one and when it was suggested to me the tune popped back into my head and I couldn’t get it out…for days.

I’d like to re-write this song and add some actual hope to it. The first few lines are fine, my heart isn’t breaking when I hear them. Sometimes things change, don’t worry about it, there isn’t really anything we can do about it…except choose to keep loving. No matter what. Ok, so we can’t keep pretending everything is alright, let’s air our dirty laundry, open up our hearts and love each other, period. Sometimes life and love get messy, we can’t pretend everything is alright. We fight. We get hurt. We feel betrayed (see Monday’s blog). We lie. We hold back our hearts. We put up walls. So let’s stop pretending everything is alright…and love anyway.

“We told each other it was love before, the simple truth is it just ain’t no more, the bells stopped ringin’, the music won’t play, the crazy little feeling is fadin’ away…” Crap. If it was love before then it is still love. Love doesn’t just stop one day. It doesn’t stop when a person dies, we still love them even if they have passed into the next life. It doesn’t stop when someone lies to you, it may change but it doesn’t just stop. You don’t wake up one day and suddenly stop loving someone. You choose to stop loving them. The bells stopped ringing? Choose to ring them again. The music won’t play? Write a new song. The crazy little feeling is fading away? Choose to let sanity return and choose to love.

Love does not just disappear.
Love does not disappear like snowflakes as the weather warms up.
Love does not fade like the leaves on a trees in the fall.
Love does not fall away like petals off a tree in a rain storm.
Love does not disappear like bubble in a glass of champagne.
Love chooses to remain.

I hope love is more stable than bubbles in champagne...

You don’t know where the good times went? You let them slip away, get them back. Remember what made the good times good and re-create them. Make new memories. Go on new adventures. Love doesn’t just disappear as though it were a dog that ran away. The simple truth is that it doesn’t fade, it doesn’t disappear, we just choose not to keep loving. Go with the flow of love because love will lead you Home. Choose love. Choose to keep on loving even if the champagne goes flat, the snowflakes melt, the leaves on the trees fall to the ground and petals fall off trees in a spring rain. Because the truth is that all of those things will happen. Shouldn’t love be a stronger force? I should hope so.
