Alright, one last political bit, and then I can say with much certainty, that I’ll be done with politics for a while. Ross Douthat wrote an article for the NY Times this weekend called, “The Liberal Gloat” and in it he states, “What unites all of these stories is the growing failure of America’s local associations — civic, familial, religious — to foster stability, encourage solidarity and make mobility possible.” I’m not sure where I read it now, but someone, somewhere said that when our local associations fail, we look to the government to be our God. Scary? It should be, for two reasons:
(1) Why are our local associations (read: parishes) failing?
(2) Who wants to look to our government to be our God? Not me.
Certainly something to think about…and something to pray about. How do we overcome the growing failure of our local associations so that God is our God and government is our government (for the people, by the people)?

I can’t help but share the most brilliant piece of advice, posted by a priest friend of mine (and I don’t think I’ll ever get over how cool it is to have good friends who are priests!)
I can’t tell you how wonderful this advice is. He (whoever “he” is) needs to be a man first, then a husband. I’m convinced he won’t be a good husband unless he is FIRST a man (just as much as a wife won’t be a good wife until she is a woman first). I could go on, but I think you get my point. God can make a man/woman out of us, but when we *try* to make a husband/wife out of someone we usually, almost always fail. “Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build.” – Psalm 127:1

I can hardly believe it, but my 200th blog is coming up soon…and I’m planning something super special for it. In theory, the 200th blog will be posted on Wednesday! Be sure to come back then for an awesome blog (and pray for it…because I’ve dreamt up something awesome and it needs work to be that awesome by then!)

Do any of you ever have that feeling where you think you know where God is leading you? It is tricky. I’ve felt it only a few times in my life, where I can see, just over the horizon, that God is leading me. I’m beginning to see the stars lining up, so to speak, but I’m unsure. I think He is calling me away from certain things and towards other things (I know how incredibly vague that sounds). So I’m curious: do any of you ever feel that way? What do you do with that feeling?
Also, pray for me =)

It is Black Friday. When you read this I will either be shopping like a mad woman or passed out from exhaustion/joy of great bargains. I’m not usually a fan of late nights, but I LOVE me some bargains, and you better believe that I’ve been scouting things out, checking out ads, and saving up coupons. My bank account may just hate me by the end of the day. Hooray for shopping!

If you’ve been following this blog you have probably figured out that I love the desert and I’ve written about not fearing the desert, and how God calls me to the desert, and making a way for the Lord in the desert, and this very song…here. {Seven}
This week’s Biblical goodness comes from John 14:23, “Jesus answered and said to him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him” (emphasis mine). Such a simple verse, and so often I gloss over the last half because I’m so used to hearing the first half. Whoever loves God/Jesus/Holy Spirit will keep the word, will follow the commands, etc., etc., we know. We’ve heard it. But whoever loves God, and keeps His word, the Father will love. Isn’t that what we are seaching for? Unconditional, Agape love? What is even more mind-blowing than His love for us is the fact that Jesus tells us that He and the Father will make their dwelling with us, each moment of each day, through the trials and the storms. That is reason to hope, and sing, and praise, and worship, and be thankful.
