Quick Takes

{One}

Perhaps I really should not write Quick Takes late at night, goodness only knows what kind of things will come out of my fingertips and this late hour (and after the third straight day of 12+ hour days!). Suffice it to say that this week of kicking off faith formation classes has been a little chaotic. {That is putting it mildly.} But here’s the thing, it has also been unspeakably beautiful. I get home at the end of the day and I’m exhausted, but in such a fulfilling way. Seeing 380+ kids come through our programs every week is such a blessing. The volunteers that I get to work with are amazing. My job is basically the coolest job I could dream up at the moment. I love it!

Remember how I used to go on and on about working out in my Quick Takes? Remember when I first started getting back into working out? Yea…that’s fallen to the way-side. Monday evening at around 10pm I decided to lift some weights and really push myself. I was so sore on Tuesday, which was the first of two 12+ hour days. Perhaps working out that late wasn’t the best idea. Tuesday and Wednesday were crazy days at work, spent running around the building, up and down stairs, lugging books and such around, so I counted that as my workout. Not as strenuous as I might like, but I definitely wasn’t sitting at my desk all day either. Life goes on!

I’m actually considering a blogging hiatus. I know, even writing that makes me a little sad. On the one side, you probably wouldn’t even notice (except for the lack of QT posts) because I’ve got posts scheduled until kingdom come (a.k.a. Thanksgiving). I’ve got a few people lined up for guest posts in the “just don’t say it” series as well. I love, love, love blogging but I’m really feeling a pull to get back to the heart of blogging. I get so caught up in the stats and the viewers that it is far too easy to lose myself in growing the site while sacrificing my content. That’s not what I’m about. When I started this blog over two and a half years ago (that long already?!) I never dreamed it would be what it is today. Heck, I never dreamed I’d write a book either. But here we are and I want to make sure that God is still working through this blog and that I’m opening my creative juices to Him as much as possible.

All that to say…I’m still praying about all things blog-related, though nothing official has been decided, aside from the fact that I have zero plans to shut the blog down anytime soon!

Late night blogging has sucked my brain away. In place of actual thoughts, you get lovely things, like awesome quotes to keep you going through your weekend!

“Do not be troubled if you do not immediately receive from God what you ask him; for he desires to do something even greater for you, while you cling to him in prayer.” – Evagrius Ponticus

return to Me

The idea for this picture and the caption came to me in prayer late Tuesday night. He wants our hearts in the most beautiful and profound way imaginable. Return to Him.

p.s. I snapped that beauty in the adoration chapel at the church I work at. God is good.

Song of the week…

Tenth Avenue North’s “Worn” – I’m never sorry for buying their albums, and this time my only sadness is that it took me so long to grab The Struggle. Their lyrics are catchy, but beyond that, they are deep and stir my heart.

“Let me see redemption win, let me know the struggle ends, that You can mend a heart that’s frayed and torn…”

Year of Faith shout out goes to:

“Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved,
heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
bearing with one another and forgiving one another…And over all these put on love,
that is, the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts,
the peace into which you were also called in one Body.
And be thankful.”
– Colossians 3:12, 14-15

Definitely one of my favorite bits of wisdom from St. Paul!

Until next time 😉
