quick takes: inspirational Edition.
This week’s installment of “7 Quick Takes” is simply all of the things that have been inspiring me and making me think as of late! Enjoy 🙂
“We fight one another, and envy arms us against one another. . . . If everyone strives to unsettle the Body of Christ, where shall we end up? We are engaged in making Christ’s Body a corpse. . . . We declare ourselves members of one and the same organism, yet we devour one another like beasts.” – St. John Chrysostom
Ironically enough, this post from The Evangelista is inspiring me. She writes about paying attention to reality rather than guarding our hearts. I’ve written about guarding your heart, but her post is giving me a lot to think about.
“Love is primarily in the will, not in the emotions or the glands. The will is like the voice; the emotions are like the echo. The pleasure associated with love, or what is today called “sex,” is the frosting on the cake; its purpose is to make us love the cake, not ignore it. . . . But when sex is divorced from love there is a feeling that one has been stopped at the vestibule of the castle of pleasure; that the heart has been denied the city after crossing the bridge. Sadness and melancholy result from such a frustration of destiny, for it is the nature of man to be sad when he is pulled outside himself, or exteriorized, without getting any nearer his goal.” – Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, Three to Get Married
“Man may forget his Creator or hide far from his face; he may run after idols or accuse the deity of having abandoned him; yet the living and true God tirelessly calls each person to that mysterious encounter known as prayer. In prayer, the faithful God’s initiative of love always comes first; our own first step is always a response. As God gradually reveals himself and reveals man to himself, prayer appears as a reciprocal call, a covenant drama. Through words and actions, this drama engages the heart. It unfolds throughout the whole history of salvation.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2567
I’m inspired that my dad found a typo in my book that makes me laugh:
“Whenever the Ark was carried it was always wrapped in a veil, in a blue cloth, and was very carefully concealed, even from the priests who carried it. The Ark, which started out as mere wood, was covered in golf and turned into something beautiful and radiant as it housed God Himself.”
Yea, so the Ark of the Covenant was not covered in golf. Good job Dad, it has been fixed now! See, no one is perfect! 🙂
This song…on so many levels.
Making beautiful images like this…
Until next time 😉

Yes! Cake is fabulous and Fulton Sheen is amazing 🙂
I didn’t catch it either, but my Dad is pretty fantastic like that!
Thanks! I wanted it to be something that inspired thought and meditation 🙂 that means a lot to me!
Totally agree. If it were me, I would have been bawling, not singing.
Love #3! I am a cake girl myself. 😉
oh, and I also loved that Evangelista post about paying attention to reality!
God job, Dad! I loved that part, of course because of The Veil! But, I didn’t notice that on the Kindle version. I still have to finishe the book. It is not a book you can rush through as it inspires meditation. Hugs, Cindy
#6: The video posted of him singing it at Adoration in Rio has the ability to bring me to tears.
