quick takes: feast day Edition.

It is my feast day today! I like to call today one of my Catholic birthdays because it is a pretty rad day! In case you didn’t know…today is the feast day of Saint Rose of Lima, who is my Confirmation saint and why I refer to today as “my” feast day. She was a pretty rad girl, going so far as to rub pepper on her face so she would appear ugly to the ‘gents and she could just be with her one true love: God. She’s the patron saint against vanity, and the first canonized saint of the Americas. She frequently prayed, “Lord, increase my sufferings, and with them, increase Your love in my heart.” That one gets me every time. When I picked her as my saint I just liked her name and knew next to nothing about her. Now, here I am, some amount of years after being confirmed and she’s half of my rose dream team (together with St. Thérèse! Happy feast day, St. Rose!

Sometimes I get a little blog-envy for Jen‘s Quick Takes. Her stories are so witty and funny, and despite their length I genuinely want to read all of her quick takes. So last week when she didn’t post the full seven quick takes I somehow felt better about my not-always-so-witty quick takes. Thanks for that, Jen!

I’m pleased to report that I’m actually keeping up with running! It is a habit I’ve started and stopped any number of times in my life, but for the last three weeks I’ve legitimately run at least three times a week! My playlist is always being refined and new music is added (Ben Rector has a new album out this week and Luke and OneRepublic are also great to run to!) as I get in my groove. Also, after my run I have a legitimate (or so I tell myself) reason to lay on my floor as I recover and check up on blogs, Instagram, Twitter and all the other fun stuff of life. It works quite well!

Photo dump: It is Saint Rose’s feast day so…
I mean…they are beautiful!

Last week’s book giveaway was kind of a flop. That’s probably because when I told you to guess one of my two favorite chapters in my book I made it too hard when I didn’t bother to give you a chapter list (and I disqualified all of my friends who know the answer already…and yes, you are still disqualified). So, here’s a chapter list, happy guessing – first one to guess the right chapter wins a signed copy!

Year of Faith hat-tip for the week:
“Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us
and persevere in running the race that lies before us
while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus,
the leader and perfecter of faith.
For the sake of the joy that lay before him
he endured the cross, despising its shame,
and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. ” – Hebrews 12:1-2 (the reading from last Sunday)
Truly, let us rid ourselves of every thing that keeps us from God, keeping our eyes fixed on Him. The joy that lays before us (Heaven) is greater than all the sufferings we shall face in this life.
Until next time 😉

Generally my running consisted of being forced to run in gym class and nothing more. But now that I can run at my own pace (without a gym teacher threatening to fail me) I enjoy it much more!
Winner will be notified by e-mail 😉
I’m with Jen up there. Generally I only run if being chased by a threatening life force. However, lately I’ve been getting an urge to incorporate a little running with the kids into my nonexistent exercise routine. Consider me scared. 🙂
Oh, and my guess is … The Proposal that Never Ends. Am I right? Am I right? 🙂
Exactly! I run my buns off and now I want to collapse and catch my breath since I left it in the dust! 🙂
#3 made me laugh because I totally do that, too. I collapse on the stairs as soon as I get back from a run for a good 15 minutes and surf FB, Instagram, etc. Hey, we’ve EARNED that time with all the running!! That is what I tell myself at least.
Having run feels awesome, it is freeing and I really feel like I worked for something! I don’t have any marathon aspirations, but it is nice to run and not worry about life for a little while! (No clue if that is proper grammar…)
I will have to check out Mumford & Sons…I need more of their music in my life anyway!
p.s. That’s why I have regular QT things, i.e. #5 is always about the book, #6 is a song, #7 is something from the bible/catechism. That means I only really need to come up with 4 original QTs!
Thanks – it is a lovely feast day!
p.p.s. The link-up will be open for a while, I can’t wait to read your story 🙂
That used to be my policy…and now I’m apparently a running junkie. Such is life!
Okay, I’m going to guess Fierce since I was going to guess Eve and Mary and someone already guessed it. Btw, how awesome does it feel having ran? (I don’t say I like running, I say I like having ran… Is that proper grammar? Idk.) My running song suggestion is Hopeless Wanderer from Mumford & Sons. It does not get old! YouTube the music video for it, too, it’s hilrarious! PS – I can’t even write 7QT posts often because I literally cannot for the life of me think of 7 independent things to write about. But then again I am not all that creative. I mean, the word “Blog” is in my blog name. Whatevs! Happy feast day! (PPS – I started writing a conversion story for your link-up but I’m having trouble clicking “publish” … You know… Just FYIing!)
#3: I shall live vicariously through you. (My policy is that I don’t run unless I’m being chased.)
I’m going to guess Eve and Mary!
Unpursued since you made up the word I figure maybe it’s also your favorite chapter!
