The Auspice Maria - an intertwined A and M - is a classic Marian symbol. The phrase comes from Latin and means "under the protection" of Mary. Other definitions translate auspice as "under the support or patronage" of Mary. For instance, this symbol can be found on countless works of art and reminds us that Our Lady is always watching over us.
With this classic symbol as inspiration, I took many titles and apparitions of Our Lady to prayer. From that prayer and reflection came the entire Auspice Maria sticker series. This sticker in particular celebrates Mary's title as Our Lady of La Leche.
The Design: Our Lady of La Leche
Our Lady of La Leche is a powerful devotion to Mary. Under this title she is honored as Mother, and especially as the breastfeeding mother of Jesus. As such, essential elements of Our Lady of La Leche have been incorporated into the Auspice Maria symbol. First, the crown above Mary's head floats above the auspice symbol. Next, the A features a beautiful Marian blue, plus symbols and patterns often incorporated into artwork of Our Lady of La Leche (the Milk). Additionally, the M similarly features designs common to depictions of Mary under this title. Lastly, baby Jesus hovers over the Auspice Maria design, open-mouth and waiting to be fed by His loving Mother. May this sticker serve as inspiration for all young mothers, that they may follow in Mary's footsteps in their own motherhood.
