This week’s prompt: Fave Mom blogs!
You know that moment when you stumble across a blog that you just can’t get enough of? That has been me lately with Carrots for Michaelmas. If her stats have been up and all over the place, digging through the archives, it might be because of me. Some of her blogs are super mommy-ish (which I can appreciate), but there are so full of wisdom and things that make me think. Her definition of sexy is something that I completely understand and relate to, even as a not-yet-married lady. Whenever I’ve got a free minute and my brain isn’t fried, you can bet I’m frustrated with my phone/browser for not loading her page fast enough!
I enjoy Hallie and Jen‘s blogs, but Haley at Carrots just wins me over.
However…when it comes to mommy blogs, my favorite, hands down, for some time now, has to be my friend Kallah’s blog, Being Open to Life. I’ll admit that sometimes it takes me a while to catch up on her blog because her posts can be a little lengthy, but every single time they are worth the read. I’m never sorry for reading her posts, and I almost always finish them with tears in my eyes. Kallah and I actually went to college together and were on the same scholarship. Back then she struck me as a carefree, beautiful Catholic woman. And when I say that she is beautiful I mean that she is gorgeous. She has one of the most beautiful and gentle souls I’ve ever come in contact with, and a moment in her presence is more calming than words can describe. When I had the great joy of meeting her son only six weeks after he was born, I was struck by what a natural mother she is. Her blog about life, being open to life, marriage, and motherhood is just a snapshot of the beauty that is Kallah. She and her wonderful husband (who I have yet to actually meet, but if he married her then he has to be a class act) just had their second son, sweet Henry Martin. If you head over to her blog (and please do!), you might want to have a box of kleenex handy. Maybe it is just because I knew her in college and reading about her life makes me feel as though we are still BFFs sitting around the wobbly tables eating dinner in the caf, but her blog is a gem, a diamond shining in the blogosphere.
Okay…now that I finally finished reading Kallah’s blog about sweet Henry and have wiped the tears from my eyes, I’ll leave you with this: don’t shy away from the “Mommy Blogs” just because you are unmarried. There are so many great ones out there, ideas I’ve stored away for future days, and they give me hope that though marriage and motherhood are tough, they are so, so worth it.
